About Veil
A solo project born at IIT Kanpur — one student's answer to the silence that lives beneath the surface of every IIT campus.
Why it exists
IIT is one of the most high-pressure environments in the world. The social cost of vulnerability — admitting you're struggling, expressing a crush, sharing a confession — is enormous when your real identity is attached. Veil removes that cost entirely.
You get a randomly generated anonymous name, a campus feed, direct messages, and group chats — none of which expose who you are. The anonymity is enforced by architecture: your email and real identity are never joined to any public API response or shown to any other user.
This is not an engagement-maximising product. No algorithms. No ads. No trackers. The feed is chronological. The goal is genuine human connection, not time-on-app.
Who built it

Jagdeesh Meena
Founder & Developer · BT - ME · Y22 · IIT Kanpur
I built Veil because I wanted the platform I wished I had during my hardest semesters. I've seen too many people — including myself — struggle in silence because the social cost of honesty on campus is too high.
Veil is a solo project built from scratch with Next.js. Every feature was driven by a single goal: create something genuinely useful, not something designed to extract engagement or data.
What we stand for
Privacy is the foundation, not a feature.
Every architectural decision assumes user data must be protected by default. Your email is never joined to any public-facing query. Anonymous names cannot be reverse-engineered. The Reveal feature requires independent consent from both parties — neither can force the other.
No trackers. No algorithmic feeds.
Veil does not run advertisements, sell data, or use engagement-maximising algorithms. The feed is chronological. We are not venture-capital-backed and have no investors to satisfy.
Anonymity with accountability.
The mask protects honest expression. It does not protect harassment, abuse, or illegal conduct. We enforce this distinction actively. See our Community Guidelines for how.
Built for campuses, by students.
Veil exists to serve IIT students and no one else. Campus-specific feeds keep conversations relevant. Verification via institutional email keeps the network genuine. Each campus is its own private network.
