Veil
About Veil

A campus of thousands.
Still easy to feel alone.

Veil was built to close that gap — one anonymous conversation at a time.

The Problem

The weight of the IITK tag

From the moment you receive your admit letter, you are defined by labels. Your branch, your batch, your CPI, the clubs you get into, and the company you eventually land. These tags become the lens through which everyone — and eventually you — see yourself.

The social cost of vulnerability at a place as competitive as IIT Kanpur is enormous. Admitting you are struggling feels like weakness. Asking for help feels like falling behind. And so thousands of brilliant people navigate the hardest years of their lives in silence, separated from each other by a facade of composure.

"

We spend years maintaining a perfect public facade. We pretend we aren't stressed, we pretend we aren't heartbroken, we pretend we have our futures perfectly figured out.

The Solution

Why anonymity is the answer

Veil strips away the tags. It gives you a randomly generated poetic identity — something completely detached from your academic and social reputation — and lets you just be a person. Not a Y22 CSE student with a 9.2 CPI. Just a person who wants to talk.

🌙

Anonymous by Architecture

Your real identity is never returned by any API or shown to any user. Anonymity is enforced in code, not just policy.

🔒

Exclusive to IITK

An @iitk.ac.in email is required to sign up. The network stays clean because only verified students can enter.

Reveal When Ready

If you hit it off with someone and want to know who they are, the mutual Reveal feature lets you bridge the gap — on your own terms.

Ephemeral Rooms

Not every conversation needs to last. Rooms auto-delete after 24 hours, giving you a space to speak freely without a permanent record.

👥

Anonymous Groups

Find your people — confessors, ranters, late-night studiers — in topic-based communities where your branch and batch still don't matter.

🛡️

Block & Report

The platform is anonymous, not lawless. Robust blocking and reporting tools keep the community safe and accountable.

Our Values

What we stand for

01

Privacy is not a feature — it's the foundation.

Every architectural decision, from database schema to API design, is made with the assumption that user data should be protected by default.

02

No ads. No trackers. No algorithmic feeds.

Veil does not run advertisements, does not sell data to third parties, and does not use engagement-maximising algorithms that reward outrage.

03

Anonymity with accountability.

The mask protects honest expression. It does not protect harassment, abuse, or illegality. We enforce this distinction actively.

04

Built for the campus, owned by the campus.

Veil is not backed by venture capital or external investors with growth targets. It exists to serve the IITK community and no one else.

The Team

Who built this

Jagdeesh Meena
Founder & Developer

Jagdeesh Meena

Final Year B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) · IIT Kanpur · Y22

I built Veil because I wanted to create the platform I wished I had during my hardest semesters. I have seen too many people — including myself — struggle in silence because the social cost of being honest on campus is too high.

Veil is a solo project, built from scratch using Next.js . While I used AI as my pair programmer to help bring the code to life, every feature and design decision was driven by me with one goal: creating something genuinely useful — not something designed to extract engagement or data.

If you have a feature request, a bug report, or just want to talk tech, my inbox is always open. This network belongs to the students of IITK.
